Motorcycle Training

At Academy Motorcycle Training we are committed to making your motorcycle tuition as fun, safe and informative as possible. we offer a full range of courses from compulsory basic training (CBT) to advanced and even instructor level. We have full time professional staff who are driving standards agency approved. Therefore you can be assured of the best training possible. With our fleet of 50, 125 and 500cc machines and our unrivaled enthusiasm for motorcycles there really is no other choice. We have the latest in digital bike to bike radios. We also supply free use of safety helmets, waterproofs and high visual jackets. Academy offer the largest and longest established training site in the area.

Compulsory Basic Training (CBT)

CBT is a course that is designed to introduce you to motorcycling. It is NOT a test. It contains five modules that once completed successfully, will enable you to ride on the road unsupervised as a learner, with the following restriction
You may ride up to a maximum of 125cc (14.6bhp)
(Depending on your age and licence categories)
You must display L plates front and rear
You cannot carry pillion passengers, You cannot ride on motorways

Restricted 33bhp licence

Once you have completed CBT, you should take further training. If you train and test on a 125 machine you will then be able to ride a motorcycle that has a maximum power output of no more than 33bhp. This restriction lasts for 2 years from the date you passed your test. At the end the 2 year period, your licence will automatically upgrade to a full unrestricted licence.

Theory Test

We can arrange your theory test for you if you decide. We can also offer help on how to pass your theory test first time.

Direct Access (DAS)

If you are over 21 and have successfully completed CBT, you can obtain a full unrestricted licence by taking your test on a machine that produce a minimum of 46.6bhp.
As with all Academy Motorcycle Training courses, these are available regardless of your previous experience. Since the inception of the Direct Access Scheme (DAS) in 1997, we have been at the forefront of designing training courses to adapt to an individuals needs and requirements.

Advanced tuition

we are able to offer intermediate tuition for newly qualified licence holders and advanced tuition for those wishing to either take the advanced test or just polish up and fine tune their motorcycling skills.

Refresher Courses

If you already hold a full licence, but it has been some time since you last rode, we can arrange a course of lessons for you either on your own machine or on one of our own 125 or 500cc motorcycles.
